Ingredients:
- 1 lb. ground beef
- ½ lb. ground sausage (bulk or Italian)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 ounces mushrooms, thickly sliced
- ½ yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon marjoram
- 3 cups marinara sauce
- Kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper
- 6 English Muffins
- 2 ounces pepperoni, diced
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions:
- Prepare the Meat Mixture:
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef and ground sausage until about halfway cooked.
- Add the butter, mushrooms, and chopped onion to the skillet with the meat.
- Continue cooking until the meat is fully browned, mushrooms are cooked, and onions are softened.
- Add Seasonings and Sauce:
- Reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the minced garlic and marjoram to the skillet.
- Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
- Pour in the marinara sauce and stir well to combine.
- Season with kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste.
- Simmer the mixture for 7-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.
- Prepare the English Muffins:
- While the meat mixture is simmering, split the English muffins and place them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.
- Toast the English muffins under the broiler until they are lightly browned.
- Assemble and Broil the Pizza Burgers:
- Preheat your oven's broiler.
- Divide the meat mixture evenly over the toasted English muffins, spreading it out to cover each muffin half.
- Top each muffin half with diced pepperoni.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the pepperoni.
- Final Broiling:
- Place the assembled pizza burgers under the broiler for about 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Watch closely to prevent burning, as broiling times can vary.
- Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
